Competitive sport has always been a central component of my life from a young age. I tried my hand at most sports but swimming and rugby predominated throughout my teenage years. Then, at the age of 15, I was selected to join the Leeds Tykes academy and so began my journey into professional rugby.

I turned professional at the age of 18 and went on to play for 14 years. During this time, I played for Leeds, Northampton Saints, Saracens, and England, winning 3 premiership titles and 2 European Cups. I also became well acquainted with many of the more challenging aspects such as career-threatening injuries, disciplinary issues, and various, off-field, personal issues.

When I noticed a lack of the professional support, guidance and expertise I needed to navigate such issues successfully, I was prompted me to take action and complete an MSc in Psychology at the University of East London alongside the final years of my playing career. I have since gone on to complete a second MSc in Applied Positive Psychology and Coaching Psychology and am an accredited coach with the European Coaching and Mentoring Council.

I retired from playing in 2021 and took up a role as the Head of Player Development and Wellbeing at Saracens, before going on to become the Head of Psychological Performance. My work made an important contribution to the club’s 2022/23 premiership title-winning campaign, with a number of clients going on to excel at the 2023 Rugby World Cup in France:

I made the decision to move on from Saracens in 2023, and alongside my continued involvement in elite sport, I have begun to work with various individuals and organisations in the corporate sector. There is an alignment in the values, practices, and overall philosophy adopted in my own work and of Coaching Impact. Their emphasis on learning through experience particularly resonates with me, and I am excited to be putting their approach into action.
